The Making Process
I simply love this frame shape because it pairs wonderfully with an antique bridge lamp. The above images reflect only a few stages of the making process, but includes completion of the frame wrap, installation of the silk linking, silk overlay, and application of multiple layers of antique and modern laces.
The most important design concept for this Victorian lampshade was the creation of a high degree of sparkle. Since black and white can often be bland, I decided to overlay the large shade panels with a shimmering silver net that twinkles in low light and glows in direct light. The glass lampshade beads enhance the “sparkle factor” tenfold as, they are lined in silver, which captures and redirects surrounding light. When lit, the beads are absolutely striking. Addition of a cut crystal prism as a pull chain component enhanced the overall luminosity of the piece.
The antique lamp base in this creation was a refurbished cast metal bridge lamp. The electrical hardware was entirely removed and replaced by a certified electrician for safety. I pained the lamp black and added delicate silver detail. This lamp will continue to provide beauty and functionality for many years to come.
