Making a Victorian Lampshade by Hand with Antique Textiles

Step into the enchanting world of craftsmanship as we unveil the intricate process behind the creation of a beautifully sculpted Victorian lampshade gracefully adorning an antique lamp. Transport yourself to the glamorous era of the 1920s Art Deco movement, where every curve and contour whispers tales of opulence and sophistication. This fusion of vintage charm and timeless elegance showcases a meticulously restored antique lamp base complemented by a silk lampshade, skillfully crafted with antique textiles. Join us on this journey as we delve into the artistry and passion behind this exquisite pairing, inviting you to savor the allure of bygone eras reimagined in a contemporary light.

A stately restored authentic antique lamp with agate detail provides the perfect perch for a unique handmade Art Deo stylized Victorian lampshade. The shape of this vintage style lampshade is simply delightful.

Lampshade Making Process

From a blank wire to complete. This vibrant handmade silk Victorian lampshade was created with hand-dyed silk, antique metallic lace from France, antique metal lace trim, and handmade tassels!

The color transition is seamlessly hand-dyed in beautiful turquoise and blue hues. The silks are sewn by hand using silk stretching techniques, and a needle and thread.

Laces and netting are professionally sewn to the lampshade by hand for lasting quality and smooth finish. It takes longer to create the lampshades using these methods, but the outcome is worth the effort.

Handmade tassels add a touch of originality to a piece. These tassels were created with the French method, using fringe that is dyed by hand, wrapped, and stitched tightly.

Handmade elements

Only the finest handmade tassels will do! I don’t use any prefabricated textile embellishments from China. I craft them all by hand, personally dyeing and creating each tassel from scratch.
